Brass Outlets Installation Guide
These steps are the same for a single-gang outlet or larger multi-gang configurations.
Before You Begin: What You'll Need
- Your new outlet
- Matching brass screws (included with your product)
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Wire strippers (if cutting or re-stripping wires)
- Voltage tester (highly recommended for safety)
Step-by-Step Cover Plate Installation Instructions
1. Turn Off Power
Go to your home's main electrical panel (breaker box) and flip the breaker to the "OFF" position. Word of caution—always verify that the power is off using a voltage tester before touching any connections.
2. Remove Old Device (If Applicable)
Unscrew and remove the old wall plate and electrical device. Gently pull the device out from the wall box. Note how the wires are connected before disconnecting them.
3. Prepare Wires
Ensure the ends of your electrical wires are properly stripped (usually about 1/2 inch or 0.5 inches of exposed copper).
4. Connect Your PlatePrestige Hardware
Connect the wires to your new PlatePrestige outlet. The wiring configuration will depend on the specific product and your home's electrical setup. Ensure all wire connections are tight and secure.
5. Mount the Device
Fold the wires into the electrical wall box, push the device into place, and secure it with the provided mounting screws. Do not overtighten.
6. Install the Wall Plate
Attach the brass wall plate using the matching lacquered brass screws. Tighten until snug and flush with the wall. Be careful not to overtighten.
7. Restore Power & Test
Turn the circuit breaker back to the "ON" position and test your newly installed PlatePrestige hardware to ensure it functions correctly and safely.
