      Choosing brass Decora & GFCI outlet covers

      The right outlet cover starts with the device already in your wall. These standard wall-plate listings include the plate and matching screws, without a receptacle. Choose the opening and gang count first, then the finish.

      Match the opening to your outlet

      Decora-style covers have rectangular openings for compatible GFCI receptacles, rocker switches and other rectangular devices. Traditional duplex covers use two rounded cutouts rather than one rectangular opening.

      For a USB outlet or smart device, compare its face and mounting arrangement with the selected plate drawing; the device name alone does not confirm the fit. A cover plate does not add GFCI protection or change an outlet’s electrical rating.

      Choose the right gang size

      Gang count refers to side-by-side device positions, not the number of plug sockets. A receptacle with two plug sockets can occupy one gang. Choose a 1-gang plate for one device position, a 2-gang plate for two, and so on.

      These plates are designed for standard U.S. wall boxes. Check the selected plate’s outer dimensions, openings and mounting positions against your existing layout. For five positions, select 5 Gang in the 1–5 gang Decora wall-plate listing.

      Coordinate the plate, device and room

      Brass, Aged Brass and Antique Brass offer different tones, while Unlacquered Aged Brass is a living finish that can change with handling and exposure. Black, white and stainless-steel options are also listed; check the selected product’s available choices.
